The Met Gala can easily be described as fashion’s biggest night of the year. The who’s who of the fashion and celebrity world descend on the most coveted evening of the year to honor the glitz, glam, and most importantly, the artistry that pushes fashion forward.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which hosts the annual event, confirming months ago that this year’s Gala will honor Comme des Garçons and its founder, Rei Kawakubo, who conceived the legendary fashion brand in 1973.
Kawakubo will joined the Gala’s matriarch and fashion’s leader force of fashion, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, as honorary co-chair, in addition to musicians Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams.
An event so exclusive, The New York Times reported that in 2016, tickets to the Gala started at $30,000 and tables costing $275,000 a pop, with Wintour approving the final guest list herself. The money raised benefits the venerable Costume Institute, an organization near and dear to Wintour’s—and the fashion world’s—heart.
